How Often Should My Helmet Be Replaced?
Helmets have a shelf life!!!
We recommend that you replace your helmet every 2 to 3 years. We all know the right helmet can save your life. Most helmets are made with an EPS (or expanded polystyrene) liner or some other kind of rigid foam insulation for energy absorption. This EPS foam liner will start to deteriorate due to various influences such as age, UV light, chemicals, temperature, humidity, transportation, storage, and so forth. There is no firm scientific procedure for determining exactly when helmets should be replaced, but be wary of using a helmet more than 5 years old.
Goggle Care
Snow goggles are a vital part of any snowboarder's or skier's accessories and if you want to make them last more than one season, you should take proper care of them. Here are some tips to help you extend the life of your snow goggles.
- Use a goggle storage bag. Just about every goggle brand offers some kind of storage bag. The goggle storage bag is great to help keep your goggles from getting scratched and damaged.
- Cleaning the outer lens of your goggles is crucial when snow, ice or rain get in the way of your vision. The best way to clean is to shake the snow off and let the lens dry naturally. Only after the lens is dry you can use the goggle bag or a microfiber cleaning cloth to clean the lens.
- Cleaning the inner lens of your goggles is a different matter. Many manufacturers apply anti-fog coating on the interior lens which can be easily damaged by ANY wiping. The best way to keep the layer of anti-fog coating where it belongs is to leave this part of the goggles alone if possible. However, if needed, you can dab moisture out of the inner lens to help speed up the drying process. DO NOT WIPE THE INNER LENS! You will damage the anti-fog coating.
